bne IntelliNews – Slovenia’s ruling Freedom Movement is leaving Twitter after taking over Elon Musk
The ruling Freedom Movement, led by Prime Minister Robert Golob, announced on November 25 that it had decided to abandon the social network Twitter, three weeks after its account was temporarily locked due to a technical error.
The client’s announcement comes a month after US billionaire Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has been followed by mass layoffs, ultimatums to employees and changes to the social network’s policies.
During this time, we realized that we don’t even need Twitter to effectively address and inform citizens about the party’s activities,” the party announced.
The party notes that only a narrow circle of people actively use Twitter in Slovenia, but they warn that it has turned into a social network that some groups, especially members and supporters of certain political parties, abuse to “deepen polarization, spread fake news, manipulation, discrediting, insults and even hate speech”.
“Given the actions and announcements of the new owner or management of Twitter, we can expect that they will further open the door to indecent communication and hate speech,” the party announced, adding that they do not want to be a part of it.
The Freedom Movement will continue to inform citizens about the party’s activities through other social networks, namely Facebook and Instagram.
