Alentejo is a region of Portugal with fewer graduates
Alentejo has the lowest percentage of workers with higher education (15%) in mainland Portugal. Among workers in the region, 53% attended only basic education, 32% secondary education, 13% have a degree and 1% a master’s degree. Health, business sciences, engineering and techniques are among the most common higher education areas, according to data from the Brighter Future platform.
The study showed a decrease in unemployment among recent graduates of almost 5% between 2014 (10.1%) and 2021 (5.2%), with the region having fewer workers under the age of 35 (30%), surpassing only the central region (28%) and the autonomous region of Madeira (27%). Workers in the region are mostly between 35 and 44 years old (28%) and between 45 and 54 years old (25%).
In the activity sectors with more workers, agriculture, livestock and fishing (15%), human health and social support activities (13%) and retail trade (11%) stand out. Between 2010 and 2020, there was a 12% growth in the number of employees, having reached 19,400. As far as flights are concerned, after the Algarve (€1054), Alentejo is the region of the country with the lowest average salary (€1063), with an increase of only €36 between 2010 and 2020. The average salary Gross income is higher in the 45-54 age group (€1,129), followed by the 35-44 age group (€1,113). The professions that pay the best are Strategy and Trading Directors (€3,558) and Doctors (€3,351). The manufacture of coke for steel production, and petroleum products, is an area that offers the best treatments (€3,306).
