The sustainable urban and infrastructure development company “YIT Lietuva” will carry out the repair of the more than 4 km long section of the Kunigiškiai-Palanga district road running through the city of Palanga. The value of the works will reach about 2 million. euros.

The greater part of the road section being prepared for repair passes through the city of Palanga, which annually attracts vacationers from all over Lithuania and abroad. An average of 2,880 cars pass the Kunigiškiai-Palanga road per day.

However, the condition of the road is currently poor – the asphalt surface is uneven, potholed, there is no shortage of cracks, the edges of the road are broken. All this complicates the traffic conditions, the repair work will improve significantly.

Part of the road section will be repaired by removing the old asphalt and installing a new three-layer asphalt surface on the existing base. In the remaining 3 km long section, an asphalt concrete layer of at least 5 cm thick and 4 cm thick upper layer of asphalt concrete will be installed on top of the existing pavement.

During the repair of the road, deceleration-acceleration lanes, intersections, public transport stops and horizontal road markings will also be updated.

“As the coastal region of Lithuania develops rapidly, attracting more and more vacationers, the road transport infrastructure must be developed accordingly. Especially in the warm season, when the traffic intensity in the city of Palanga and its approaches is often extremely high, the existing road deficiencies are eliminated.

Driving on bumpy and uneven roads is unsafe and uncomfortable. Under such conditions, traffic capacity decreases, resulting in traffic congestion.

Equally important are environmental aspects, reducing traffic noise and improving the quality of life of residents. The modernization of the Kunigiškiai-Palanga road will undoubtedly have a positive effect on them,” says Kęstutis Vanagas, head of YIT Lietuva.

The repair works of the Kunigiškiai-Palanga road section are planned to start at the end of November and be completed by October next year. The preparation of road repair projects is entrusted to the company “Kelprojektas”.

Currently, “YIT Lietuva” is also carrying out major repair works of the sections of the national road Meldikviršiai-Sartininkai-Žemaičių Naumiestis in the south-western part of Lithuania and the regional road Trakai-Rūdiškės-Pivašiūnai-Alytus.

The company is also reconstructing the bridge over the Eketė river on the district road Klaipėda-Radailiai-Kretinga, carrying out capital repairs of the Pėžaičiai-Švėkšna road section in Šilutė district, reconstruction of Taurakalnis and Arimos streets in Klaipėda, reconstruction of the Dituva-Priekulė-Dreižiu section of the district road, installing the Lentvaris- Vievis, implements specialized traffic safety measures in the city of Vilnius.
