Ukraine calls on the world to recognize the Holodomor as genocide
Ukraine calls on the world to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 organized by Stalin’s totalitarian communist regime as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
This is stated in comments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to the Memorial Day of the victims of the famine, reports Ukrinform.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that on November 26, Ukraine commemorates the multi-million victims of the criminals of the totalitarian communist regime – the massive artificial famine of 1921-1923 in Ukraine. Holodomor 1932-1933 – genocide of the Ukrainian people and massive artificial famine in Ukraine in 1946-1947.
“The Ukrainian people with their traditions of national liberation movements were considered by the Kremlin as a threat to the existence of the Soviet system. The regime of constant acts of hunger, repression and mass deportation, in order to break the spirit of Ukrainians, destroyed no less than 3.9 million people by starvation,” the commentary says.
The foreign policy department emphasized that during the decade of the totalitarian regime in the Kremlin, he did everything possible to hide from the international community the traces of the repressive policy against Ukrainians, silenced, distorted and denied the facts in order to remove responsibility for the crimes committed.
“Today, in the 90s of the beginning of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, the goal of Russia’s genocidal war of aggression is no different from the goal of the genocide of 1932-1933 – the destruction of the Ukrainian nation and its statehood. “By continuing terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure, destroying historical and cultural heritage, forcibly removing Ukrainian children to Russian territory, the Russian Federation is waging a war against Ukrainian identity,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The political and ideological narratives of the Stalin era, noted in the comments in the form, in particular, from the planting of the “hostile West” and the approval of the creation of Ukraine as an independent state, today are especially actively reproduced in the totalitarian politics of the current Russia.
“The totalitarian communist regime has committed mass famines, and the path regime is conducting worldwide “Hunger Games”. Hundreds of people in Africa and Asia have already suffered from the destruction of agricultural infrastructure and the blocking of Ukrainian grain exports by the Russian Federation. Just as in 1932-1933 the NKVD seized the last food from Ukrainians, so in 2022 the Russian occupying forces will rob Ukrainian elevators and take away Ukrainian grain,” the comment reads.
By obstructing the work of the Black Sea Grain Agreement, Ukrainian diplomats note, the Kremlin uses food as a weapon to implement its aggressive policy, while a number of countries and regions are on the brink of starvation due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine proves that unpunished evil and unknown historical mistakes are returning in our time on a worse scale. We call on international partners to restore historical justice – to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people and to prevent further war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by Russia,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed sincere gratitude to those countries and governments that have already decided to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide.
According to Ukrinform participants, 22 states have officially recognized the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
