The revelations about the structure of the disabled, which operated in Thessaloniki and even went so far as to conceal the death of children, are causing horror and anger.
At the same time, food torture and tragic staff shortages were found in the structure.
Olympia Korda, president of the structure’s parents and guardians association, said speaking to ANT1:
“The abuse of Paris by an employee, which resulted in the child… We learned about this by accident and reported it. A second incident, a patient escaped from the institution that was in Pylaia and found himself in Kalamaria, barefoot and lost, and was found by the police. And the third employee incident, here we are talking about abuse, an employee there, because the patient was playing with…, took it as an example and burned his hands with this water.”
The revelations, when the 20-year-old Paris died in November 2021 and his family filed a complaint with the authorities.
Dimitris Golemis, lawyer for the victim’s family, said that “they tried to cover up the incident and presented it as a hit from another food item, that the inmate allegedly hit Paris with a slipper, and rejected what had happened, that Paris had been hit . by the employee of the institution, who seems to have been under the influence of alcohol on the night in question”.
The conclusion of the National Transparency Authority (NDA) confirms the family’s allegations of torture of the child, while omissions in the operation of the structure were also found.
