Strike: Westbahn takes care of the connection

The mostly private Westbahn is worried about its connections between Salzburg and Vienna because of the announced strike on Monday. The company wants to let their trains run, but wait for ÖBB personnel at the rail systems and stations.
The 24-hour warning strike by the railway workers planned for November 28 also affects the Westbahn. The union is still demanding 13 percent more wages, the employers are currently offering eight percent. Another round of negotiations is planned for the weekend, which could still avert the strike.
13 percent higher wages demanded
Shortly before the expected strike, the Westbahn emphasizes that it will unintentionally become a pawn – the company had already increased the number of employees by 7.5 percent, but at least by 200 euros, before the conclusion of the collective agreement negotiations.
Westbahn routed to ÖBB staff
Even if the company does not take part in the strike on Monday, the company is dependent on the Austrian Federal Railways. The Westbahn uses the rail and station facilities and is dependent on the employees of the ÖBB infrastructure. “In the interests of all passengers, we appeal to the negotiating parties to do everything they can to find a joint solution for the KV conclusion. The train should be as reliable on Monday as the traveler countries can rightly expect,” say Westbahn managing directors Florian Kazalek and Thomas Posch.
