« On nous sert du pain rassis »
Among the regulars, there is the band of Colette, Geneviève, Paul, Fatima, Robert and Catherine. “We are served stale bread, it smells bad, and we don’t eat it anymore. We first alerted the head of the structure. Without response, we sent him an email last Sunday, where we copied the environmental mayor Pierre Hurmic. »
“If we put a bread that is already not very good in refrigerated trucks, it will get wet”
400,000 euros a year worth of bread
Exasperated, one of them even sent a supposed bread sample to the neighborhood mayor via his office. Contacted by “Sud Ouest”, the assistant for seniors at the City, Harmonie Lecerf, returned the ball to her colleague Delphine Jamet, assistant to the general administration, also president of the Bordeaux-Mérignac single-purpose intermunicipal syndicate (Sivu).
The organization is responsible for delivering meals to municipal canteens and restaurants. “We know the situation. We take it seriously. It is the bakers who deliver the bread directly to the senior clubs. If we put a bread, already not very good, in refrigerated trucks, it will of course become moist and soft. »
The elected official specifies that the bread market supplied to senior clubs is regulated by a call for tenders every four years. A significant annual budget, around 400,000 euros in Bordeaux (also including schools) but not including home delivery (150,000 euros more).
As the contract expires, the bread market for senior clubs, held by an industrialist from Gradignan, is about to be renewed on 1uh next January. “Neighborhood bakers do not want to position themselves in this too time-consuming market. The industrial houses are the only ones to be interested in it”, she regrets. It should be noted that a craftsman may also cost the City a little more than an industrialist who produces bread in large quantities.
Bacalan’s exception
The seniors of the Jardin Public club understand all the less that they are served poor quality bread when they go to lunch in the two other senior restaurants nearby, in Bacalan. “Why are delicious golden rolls served in the Achard and Chantecrit clubs but not in the Jardin Public and elsewhere? “, they ask themselves.
