Naturtex-SZTE-Szedeák out in Debrecen in a round-robin match
The match between Naturtex-SZTE-Szedeák in Debrecen started with a flurry of games: the Szeged team had a midweek victory and six consecutive wins against DEAC behind them, and they could wait for Saturday night’s champion behind them.
The people of Szeged led by five points in the early stages after Starovlah’s three-pointer, but they could not build a more serious advantage. So much so that when Polyák was away, DEAC already had the advantage when Árpád Simándi asked for time. This game continued until the half-time, where one or the other team had better periods, but it was a completely balanced match. The first half ended with Washington’s big triple, leading by three points, 42-39 at the break.
The quarterback served his compatriot, Roberson, well, with his sack Szedeák led by seven points at 43-50, then he controlled the game: from here until the end of the quarter, he stopped attacking, scored only eight points, and DEAC regularly penalized the turnovers. Polyák equalized at 56-56, and then he also ended the quarter with a triple, so DEAC was three points ahead of the final act.
The home team remained in momentum, but Naturtex could not find the rhythm that characterized it until the middle of the third quarter. The Bognáres fell behind by nine points, but of course they didn’t give up. However, they couldn’t get closer than four points, and since the team’s mistakes accumulated, they didn’t have much room for maneuver in defense. He tried to cling to the Tisza-side team at the last straw, but in the end a referee’s decision decided the game once and for all, when, instead of Debrecen’s time-out, Bognár was awarded a foul at 80-75. From there, it was just a penalty shootout, even though Szedeák led by seven points, they could not break their opponent, so after six successes against Debrecen, they finally lost against their rival.
