More than 1,000 bikers gathered in Lille against compulsory technical control
The streets of Lille roared, this Saturday, November 26. Between 1,000 and 1,200 motorcyclists gathered on the Place de la République, to protest against the compulsory technical control for two wheels, reinstated at the end of October by the Council of State
which could be effective as early as 2023.
The question of efficiency
David traveled with friends from Armentières. For this collector, there is no question of paying to have machines checked that he spends his time maintaining: “We bikers take care of our vehicles, we are very attentive. I have four motorcycles. Paying 70 euros for technical control each time is a lot“, he defends.
Exhaust, mirror, handlebars… with a technical control, the customizations that bikers love will be made more difficult. “All of these changes do not affect security in any way, and should be removedregrets Hugues-Eric, biker for over 40 years. We want to keep our freedom of customization, and not have a motorcycle that corresponds to a gray card, but a gray card that takes into account the motorcycle as it is.”
Because often it is not the mechanics that get stuck according to the figures of the French Federation of Angry Bikers. “Less than 0.3% of accidents are due to technical problems. So it is not on this basis that we are going to change the road safety figures”, advance Philippe Maussion, son representative in the North.
He is campaigning to replace technical control with more prevention and more maintenance of road infrastructures. But these tracks would not be enough to improve the safety of motorcyclists on the road according to the Council of State.
