Attersee: 82 years old and not a bit tired of art
Culture
The 82-year-old painter Christian Ludwig Attersee will reinvent the world every day with his art. The pandemic was an intense creative period for the artist – more than 70 works created in the past two years are now being shown at Galerie Frey in the city of Salzburg.
The range of works of art that Christian Ludwig Attersee created during the pandemic is large. This brings him very close to his goal of 10,000 pictures – the 82-year-old has created 9,999 works in his career: “I always wanted to paint 10,000 pictures. I used to be a fan of Wassily Kandinsky and he painted almost 10,000 pictures.”
Images should be critical and demanding
At the age of 82, Attersee is more colorful and multi-faceted than ever. The longing to reinvent the world every day with his art still motivates him. With his works of art he wants to be critical and demand: My basic principle is never to make beautiful pictures, but rather those that people need.
Companions surprised by color intensity
The current exhibition also surprises companions like Alexander Steinwendtner. The Salzburg artist completed Christian Ludwig Attersee’s master class more than 20 years ago. “It’s quite amazing, for me on the one hand it was a return to his roots, which are very graphic, and on the other hand he works with an incredible range of colors that I’ve never seen before,” says artist Steinwendtner.
Art is the elixir of life for 82-year-olds
Attersee is already working on a new exhibition – it’s about being expelled from your own country. For the 82-year-old, art is an expression and the elixir of life: “I can’t do anything else. I feel in my body, which is no longer young, but still quite young. It’s funny that you can stay so young. The hunt for art stays in my life and the hunt for art is never-ending.”
