An innovative demonstration for the climate in the capital

Environmental activism

The young activists of the group “Youth for Climate” will once again invade the streets of Luxembourg City. But this time, their manifestation will have nothing to do with the old marches.

To denounce the inaction of the leaders in the face of climate change, the activists of Youth for Climate Luxembourg met in the street, this Saturday 26 November. So far, no wonder, young activists being accustomed to organizing marches for the climate.

They hope to be several thousand to tread the cobblestones of the capital. This Friday, Youth for climate Luxembourg is organising, alongside other ecological organisations, a strike for the climate which is part of a global movement.

But this time, do not expect to hear one or the other slogan of the procession avoid each other. And for good reason: this event will be silent. A first for the group, which underlines it in its press release. “We have been accused of being just loud kids who want to skip school. So this time we’re doing the reverse.” Youth for Climate Luxembourg hopes that its message will be heard this time around.

From 6 p.m., the collective will therefore be present at Hamilius. He will then set off on the Grand-Rue to pass in front of the Chamber of Deputies, before ending his silent march on Place Clairefontaine. “We call on every individual who cares about our planet and wishes to ensure a safe environment for all future generations to join our march,” calls the group, which asks participants not to bring banners or signs, and to dress in dark colors.

“Vote for a better future”

During this action, the activists intend to “commemorate the sacrifices of the planet”. The young activists also underline their commitment. “For years we have been demanding action to save our future and only minimal changes have been made. Our throats hurt from all that screaming.”

After two years without a demonstration because of covid, the “Youth for climate” collective resumed its fight this Friday. In their sights, carbon neutrality and the price take into account the environment as an absolute priority.

Just under a hundred demonstrators gathered outside the House on Friday to remind the government of its commitments to climate protection. Three days before the start of COP25, Monday, in Madrid.
