Violence against women. A demonstration on the Old Port in Marseille: “stricter justice”
Since the beginning of the year, 121 women have died under the blows of their husband, partner or ex. On this day of awareness against violence against women, many women gathered in the Old Port of Marseille, this Friday, November 25.
“I believe you”, “violence is inherent in patriarchy”, “even my dog understands when I tell him no”, “fuck up rape” as well as messages of support for Iranian women. These are the messages that can be read on the placards that the young women brandish under the shadehouse of the Old Port.
This Friday evening, between 1,000 and 1,500 people are present in the Old Port to demonstrate against sexist and sexual violence. Among them, Laura, member of the collective 25 November. “Justice must take women’s voices more into consideration and there must be real justice, not a simple reminder of the law. On request stricter and harsher measures“, she claims.
Laura was a victim of domestic violence 14 years ago. “I had to leave Paris and settle in Marseille”, confides the young woman. “The custody of our child is shared, which means that I have to take him to the man who beat me during my pregnancy.“Memories are hard for the mother on this special day.
During a forum at the initiative of the Paca Region, the warrant officer of the national gendarmerie of Bouches-du-Rhône, Irène Lopez presented the local systems put in place since the Grenelle of domestic violence in 2019.
“In the PACA region, there are 5 houses for the prevention and protection of families who have managed themselves in intra-family violence and in the reception of vulnerable people in general”.
There is in particular the Maison des femmes in Marseille, sponsored by the singer Clara Luciani.
Among the places of refuge or places to rebuild oneself, in the Vaucluse, the isofaculté association offers, in Mazan, an equihomology program for women victims of domestic violence.
This social action tool is based on a personalized pedagogy, which goes through experience. For example, petting the horse for a few minutes, a gesture that may seem innocuous. But for these women, victims of domestic violence, it is already a big step.
