The government gives another 13.5 billion for 500 jobs to the Debrecen battery factory opposed by the locals « Mérce

Sugar Mizzy November 25, 2022

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, who is interested in flying from Brussels directly to the city of Hajdúság, is giving another HUF 13.5 billion subsidy to BMW’s giga investment in Debrecen. According to Szijjártó, the total value of the project thus reaches HUF 800 billion, making it the third largest greenfield investment in Hungary’s history. When announcing the latest investment related to electromobility, the head of the ministry said that the construction of the plant will create five hundred jobs in addition to the originally planned thousand, reports MTI.

He welcomed the fact that the automotive giant is installing the heart of its electromobility strategy in our country, where the production of its first all-electric platform will begin, which, in addition to today’s announcement, will be produced here, and then the batteries for these models will be produced.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized that the investment will give the Hungarian car industry an additional impetus, its production value increased by 23 years in the first nine months of this year, thus exceeding 8,700 billion forints, and this may exceed 10,000 billion forints for the first time this year.

“Hungary has now become the European champion of the transition to the electric car industry, and we are rightly mentioned among the hopefuls for the world title”

– settings off.

The minister called it important that the continent’s most favorable investment environment for electric automotive companies was created in Hungary, and that alliances were made with the industry’s biggest players in the east and west.

“Today, here in Hungary, the eastern and western electric car industries are meeting each other,” he said.

He pointed out that, apart from Germany and China, the three big German premium brands will be the only ones with production capacity in Hungary, as well as three of the Chinese and South Korean companies that dominate the world market for electric batteries have located their European production centers here.

According to Szijjártó, the statement can be made that we are already a major power in electric battery production – because while we are 95th in terms of population, we are third in battery production capacity.

The people of Debrecen agree less with Péter Szijjártó’s success propaganda. As soon as you know we reportedthe city LMP local referendum on the matter of the battery factory, on the following issues:

  • Do you agree that in the administrative area of Debrecen it is forbidden to create an industrial facility with an hourly water demand of more than 450 m³?
  • Do you agree that it should be forbidden to build an industrial facility in the administrative area of Debrecen that would create an annual water demand that is one and a half times the annual water consumption of several Debrecen residents?

The party has until December 3 to collect the 34,000 valid signatures required to hold the referendum.

Local people mailing campaign launched on SzabadHang’s website, calling on László Papp, the mayor of Debrecen, to prevent the construction of the battery factory in the city. As part of the campaign, more than 5,400 people have already sent letters to the Fidesz city manager.

As soon as you know we reported, one week after the announcement of the construction of the Chinese CATL factory planned for the Southern Economic Zone in Debrecen, the government decided to support the investment with HUF 87.7 billion. The amount intended almost entirely for electricity network improvements will be favorable only for the industrial site, and the amount of support provided by the taxpayer in the next 60 months will be much more than HUF 87 billion.

According to the government decree, four actors can carry out investments from the budget source, these are MAVIR Zrt., Opus Titász Zrt., MVM Démász Zrt. and the municipality of Debrecen.

Of this, Lőrinc Mészáros’ company, Opus Titász, can take HUF 16.68 billion.

Chinese CATL factory construction the biggest investment of all time will be in Hungary, despite this, the people of Debrecen first heard about it not from the local government, but from the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Levente Magyar, as a fact.

As we have been continuously reporting on Méré since 2018, Samsung’s battery factory in Göd with constant noise pollution burdens the populationmore and more irregularities are coming to light, which is quite terrifying in the case of a dangerous plant with an upper threshold value – but we wrote the Koppan Monastery also about the SK battery factory that made his life miserable, and presumably the people of Győrszentivani soon they will be able to hear the hum of a battery factory instead of birds chirping.

Continuous violation of the noise limit value, irregular operation, a workplace accidentshowever, trampling on the fundamental rights of local people usually results in the imposition of small fines – especially corresponding to the giga income of multiplexes – the authorities they do not act on merit the population in defense of his interest.
