Security at the airport before industrial action?
politics
The security staff at Salzburg Airport is apparently on the verge of a labor dispute. The employees held a staff meeting on Friday because they are demanding higher standards. There were no effects on ongoing flight operations.
The security staff is not employed by the operating company, but by a separate company that sells its services to the airport. According to the works council and union, it is becoming increasingly difficult in this industry to find several personnel for security checks.
3,000 euros gross as a target
The aim of the salary negotiations is to get closer to German security personnel. In the neighboring country, 3,000 euros gross are paid for a full-time job, emphasizes Works Council Chairman Youssef Boutwil: “After the lockdowns, it was difficult anyway. We are now facing winter charter traffic and need every employee. With our campaign, we want to send a signal that we want more people to work for us with attractive wages.”
Passenger handling was normal
The security staff meetings at the airport took place in two stages on Friday. The operation itself remained undisturbed, emphasizes airport spokesman Alexander Klaus from the operating company. He doesn’t see any hurdles in winter operations for the coming weeks and months either: “I believe that the understanding between the airport and the security organs is very good. There won’t be any problems there.”
Unionists see hurdles in all sectors
In view of the rising prices, negotiations in all sectors would be difficult to get going this year, says Kajetan Uriach from the vida trade union: “I’ve been in this business for 20 years, but this year it’s definitely the toughest arguments. There were always individual areas, but in the areas of cleaning, security, railway, trade, it was solely the metal workers who graduated relatively quickly. But even they needed works meetings.”
The nationwide collective negotiations for security personnel, which ended without result on November 15, are to be resumed soon, it was said on Friday.
