MOLDPRES news agency – The European path of the Republic of Moldova and the deepening of Moldovan-Lithuanian cooperation were discussed by Natalia Gavrilița and Ingrida Šimonytė
Chisinau, Nov. 25 /MOLDPRES/. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Gavrilița, received the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė, on a visit to the Government. The Head of the Executive from Chisinau discussed several current topics with her Lithuanian counterpart, in a tête-à-tête format, then in an extended format, after which they held a joint press conference, reports MOLDPRES with reference to the Communication and Protocol Directorate of the Government.
During the meeting, the focus was on the energy and security situation in the region, but also the urgent need to find optimal solutions to deal with the current crises.
“We had an exchange of views about the war in Ukraine and how the Russian bombing directly affects the citizens of our country. We have analyzed the situation in the energy field and it is mentioned that our country must identify as many alternative sources of natural gas as possible. However, Lithuania has a terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and we want to be able to benefit from the support of the Lithuanian parties in order to be able to transport the liquefied gas”, said Natalia Gavrilița.
The officials of the two states discussed the association committee that will take place in February 2023, but also the process of evaluating the fulfillment of the commitments that our country has assumed for the start of the accession negotiations to the European Union.
In this sense, Prime Minister Gavrilița mentioned: “Despite all the difficulties, we are very focused on fulfilling the 9 conditions. The evaluation will start in March and will end with the report in October 2023. We count on Lithuania’s support in starting negotiations as soon as the conditions are met. We want the rapprochement with the European Union to bring direct benefits for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova as quickly as possible”.
In her turn, Ingrida Šimonytė reconfirmed the fact that Lithuania supports the Republic of Moldova in its efforts towards European integration, but also in combating the crises it has granted.
“This year, Moldova demonstrated an unprecedented solidarity with refugees from Ukraine. I am glad that our countries have a close friendly relationship. I assure you of Lithuania’s full support in the process of following the European path that you have firmly committed to. We don’t know how complicated it is to implement reforms, that’s why we provide you with our experience and all the necessary support. We are convinced that the Republic of Moldova has every chance to become a member of European families in a short time”, declared Ingrida Šimonytė.
The parties emphasized the excellent level of the bilateral component and the strengthened relationship of friends that exists between the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania.
