Case occupied by the clans in Naples, the prosecutor: eviction immediately. It’s tension
A few lines, to clear the field of misunderstandings and to reaffirm the line of firmness. A few lines to express a concept: «The request to extend the eviction of the houses at number 35 in via Egiziaca in Pizzofalcone by one month is not accepted». The reasoning is clear: «We have granted a week’s extension to allow all families to find alternative accommodation to the illegally occupied house, but time has run out; now we need to vacate that property: street number 35 in via Egiziaca in Pizzofalcone must be returned to the legitimate assignees».
This is the background that prompted the Prefecture and the Police Headquarters to plan ahead, trying to lock down the people who in recent months have had the strength to denounce abuses and abuses against the legitimate assignees: since yesterday morning, the parliamentarian Francesco Borrelli (Verdi) has been under guard. He will have two police officers next to him, for each of his movements outside the home; he will have to report every sortie of him, agreeing with the agents-guardian angels the best way to nip any risk to his life in the bud. The strategy implemented in the public order committee was clear: Borrelli played a decisive role in the affair which culminated in an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office into the abusive occupations of Pizzofalcone; evictions will soon have to take place, so there are serious dangers for those exposed on the front line; thirdly, Borrelli is indicated as a symbol of the fight against a series of abuses, even beyond the bad story close to the Pallonetto di Santa Lucia.
But there is another background that has been considered behind closed doors. As is known, Borrelli’s life is considered at risk also in the light of a sinister episode, into which investigations are underway in a parallel vein: 15 days ago, the politician was in fact run over in via Tasso, near his home, by a motorcyclist who is under investigation. And there is a coincidence on which it is worth reflecting: according to what has been leaked up to now, one of the tenants of Pizzofalcone would have been driving the motorbike, in turn the recipient of an eviction order. Prejudged for robbery, once reached by the police, the motorcyclist would have limited himself to admitting that he had caused an accident, however denying that he had acted intentionally. Checks in progress.
But the escort to Borrelli is not the only measure taken by the Prefect, regarding the question of the occupied houses in via Egiziaca in Pizzofalcone: protection has in fact been arranged in favor of two close relatives of the parliamentarian, but also for Don Michele Pezzella, the parish priest who had the merit, in November of last year, to raise the voice on what was happening in the oldest alleys of the city. It was in fact Don Michele who raised public opinion’s attention to the criminal phenomenon underway a stone’s throw from the offices of the first municipality of Naples. It was he who raised attention to the pressure on the elderly, aimed at occupying public houses. Don Michele had intervened recalling “the pain caused to Mrs. Carlotta”, a ninety-year-old teacher forced to give up books and memories of a lifetime (thrown in the trash) and to accept a sort of “exile” in Irpinia, at home of a nephew.
Do you remember those words spoken on the sidelines of a Sunday mass? “Snatching the houses from the legitimate assignees, tearing people away from the memories of a lifetime, is like offending God…”. Strong words, which were followed by many testimonies of solidarity, but also the decision of the Curia to move the parish priest – again for precautionary reasons – from the church of Immacolata in Pizzofalcone to another parish in Chiaia. But let’s go back to the story of the escort to Borrelli. Let’s go back to the background of a few days ago. Defended, among others, by the lawyer Mario Bruno, fourteen families are the references of the eviction and seizure order signed by the investigating judge Sepe. The investigations of the pool led by the deputy prosecutor Pierpaolo Filippelli focused on them, which referred above all to the income situation. In summary, none of the subjects investigated for the history of illegal occupations within number 35 live in conditions of absolute poverty. On the contrary. There are those who receive basic income, while for some a sort of contiguity to the Camorra of Pizzofalcone and drug trafficking is even contested.
A scenario crystallized by the seizure order signed by Judge Sepe and who is now awaiting a response from the police. Those houses must be vacated, no other extensions will be accepted. The public prosecutor’s no with respect to the request for an extension forwarded by the lawyers, just enough to imply a one-way and close-quarters outlet for those who have the keys to the Palazzo della Camorra.
