AUSTRIA: First ÖVP country chief for “gas price help”
Upper Austria’s LH Thomas Stelzer will provide support as in Germany for households and industry
Vienna (OTS) – In the daily newspaper ÖSTERREICH (Saturday edition), the Upper Austrian ÖVP governor Thomas Stelzer speaks out in favor of gas price help. Stelzer in AUSTRIA: “People and our companies have been waiting for EU support for far too long. I really hope that the EU can quickly agree on a gas price cap. But if that doesn’t work, Austria, like Germany, must have its own gas price support.”
In Germany, the government would support the population and companies with 54 billion euros by spring 2024. “If companies in Germany suddenly pay a fraction for energy next year than in Austria, our operations will no longer be available. At the latest when gas support comes into force in Germany, there must be Austrian gas price support just to secure jobs and the competitiveness of our industry.”
As an industrial federal state, Upper Austria would be particularly affected. “The federal government has decided on a lot of effective aid. But rising gas prices threaten to overwhelm many in the coming months. People must not be left alone with the rising heating costs,” says Stelzer in AUSTRIA.
