Alaev spoke about the reasons for the break in the friendly match Russia – Iran
RPL President and RFU Vice President Alexander Alaev spoke about the reasons for the break in the friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Iran.
– Why did the match with Iran not take place?
“An amazing story for me,” Alaev said. – I will not hide, especially with the Iranian Federation, including myself. The story, which began with the matches, there was a difficulty, the coordination was delayed. From time to time it was a little different, we did not play a single match then. The issue of coordination really dragged on: both the venue and authorization from FIFA and UEFA. At some point, they changed opponents, they were going to play with Canada in Vancouver, they didn’t visually give it, they didn’t fly there, then they agreed that we would play this match in Tehran in November. I was still RFU Secretary General, there was an official letter confirming that we were playing a friendly match in Tehran, after which unrest arose in Iran, communication became less and less. They really didn’t get in touch, I don’t know for what totality. For me, this is the first time in history when we have official confirmation, but the match is not played at the end. Something went wrong here, what is the true reason, I do not know to the end.
The match between the national teams of Russia and Iran should take place last month before the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. As a result, the Russian team played friendly games with Tajikistan (0:0) and Uzbekistan (0:0).
