“What if the RER changed your life?”, a survey carried out in the greater Toulouse conurbation
The Rallumons l’Étoile association is launching, this Thursday, November 24, a survey aimed at the inhabitants of the greater Toulouse conurbation concerning their modes of travel and the impact that the development of the Toulouse RER could have.
“The objective of the survey is to make the RER concrete for the general public“, explains Benoit LanussePresident of the Rallumons l’Étoile association which promotes the development of the Toulouse RER.
From November 24 to December 8, the association offers a online quiz, in order to better understand the modes of transport and the expectations of the inhabitants of the greater Toulouse conurbation. She thus hopes that the citizens are similar to the question of the RER, while feeding the reflections of the decision-makers.
“With this questionnaire which takes 5 minutes, we are trying to find out if very concrete measures, such as trains running every half hour, from 5 a.m. to midnight, with integrated pricing, could change the daily life of the inhabitants of the large agglomeration.“, specifies Benoit Lanusse.
To carry out this investigation, the associationLet’s turn it back on‘Etoile’ relies on 13 Master’s students transmob from Jean Jaurès University.
Far from a titanic project that would cost billions, the idea of the Toulouse RER presented by the association is to develop the six branches of the already existing railway star in Toulouse, through 5 main measures:
- Six RER lines clocked every 30 minutes of 5 hours at midnight,
- An RER connection node at Matabiau,
- Integrated pricing (a system of tickets and simple and inexpensive subscriptions for all users allowing them to take all public transport),
- Coordinated buses,
- A system ” train + bike” efficient with secure tracks to access stations and adapted services there.
The principle of developing and scheduling the train lines created has already been applied in Strasbourg, for an additional cost of around 14 million euros per year, financed equally by the Region and the Metropolis. The number of trains increased by 60% during the week, it was multiplied by 3 on Saturdays, and by 2 on Sundays.
“If we imagine the same model for Toulouse, we can have a real RER network by 2024, without any works, no additional oar. With trains every thirty minutes, attendance explodes, and the additional expenses are roughly offset by the surplus revenue“, believes Benoît Lanusse.
For the moment, an agreement in principle on a first phase of the RER has been reached between the Region, Toulouse Métropole, the Departmental Council and Tisseo. These different actors will meet at the beginning of December at the meeting of the “multimodal studies steering committee”, which launched a large-scale study on the movements of Toulouse residents a few years ago.
The Rallumons l’Etoile association is hoping for a common position award from the various parties in favor of the Toulouse RER on this occasion. The conclusions of the investigation will be released no later than the beginning of January.
