Gasum opens 20th petrol station in Sweden
The energy company Gasum continues to expand the gas station network and invests with partners to enable the use of the fuel throughout Sweden.
Gasum has opened its 22nd floating gas station in Vårgårda (Sweden), bringing the total number of facilities in the Nordic region to 50.
As the infrastructure is expanded, there will be more and more gas-powered vehicles on Swedish roads, according to Gasum. There are currently around 600 heavy vehicles that run on liquid gas.
“We are happy that the Swedish government continues to support the construction of biogas plants and gas stations. Gasum is actively building new biogas plants and, by expanding the Swedish gas infrastructure, will make it possible for more and more players across the country to switch to environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative fuels,” says Sharareh Edström, Director, Trafik Sverige at Gasum.
The new station in Vårgårda testifies to the expanded collaboration between Gasum and the freight and logistics company Sandahls Logistik, with sister companies Sandahls Vårgårda and Sandahls Fullload. Sandahls Logistik aims to phase out fossil fuel-powered transport in its operations during 2025 and has chosen to invest in biogas-powered vehicle road transport.
The station in Vårgårda will enable the company to increase the pace of switching to gas vehicles in its fleet and thus respond to increasing demand from customers.
– There is great interest in using this new filling station and several companies have signaled that the investment gives them completely new opportunities to switch to transport with lower emissions, notes Edström.
Using renewable biogas in transport can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 percent compared to fossil fuels during the fuel’s life cycle.
