First death from influenza in Greece: A 78-year-old woman – The data of the EODY
The first death from the flu in Greece was not EODY. This is a 78-year-old woman who was hospitalized in the ICU and had underlying diseases.
According to the EODY, in Greece two (2) serious cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded with hospitalization in M.E.Th. They are an 82-year-old male and a 78-year-old female, who passed away. The two cases belonged to a high-risk clinical group. The cases are due to the influenza virus type A (H3N2).
A total of 44 clinical samples were tested for influenza viruses
According to the same epidemiological report of the EODY last week, a total of 44 clinical samples were tested for influenza viruses, specifically 7 from hospitals and 37 from the Morbidity Observers System in Primary Health Care. 7 (15.9%) of them were positive for type A influenza viruses and all belonged to the A(H3N2) subtype.
From week 40/2022 to week 46/2022, a total of 322 clinical samples have been tested, namely 42 from hospitals and 280 from the Morbidity Observer System in Primary Health Care. 18 (5.6%) of them were positive for influenza A viruses. Sixteen 16 (88.9%) of them belonged to subtype A(H3N2) and 2 (11.1%) to subtype A(H1N1) pdm09.
