Climate activists stick themselves on the runway in Berlin
It blocks the runway at Berlin Airport
Plane from Zurich has to land in Dresden because of climate activists
Instead of Berlin, two planes from Zurich had to land in Dresden instead of Berlin on Thursday. The reason: climate activists of the “last generation” have blocked Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.

Chaos at Berlin Airport: Since climate activists stuck to the runway, two planes from Zurich had to land in Dresden instead of Berlin. Right in the middle: co-head of news for the Blick group, Jessica von Duehren, and her children.
Once again, climate activists have struck: Instead of using a highway or a street, they are now coming up with a size larger. At Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, suspected climate activists from the “Last Generation” group stuck to the runway on Thursday afternoon.
This had consequences: air traffic was disrupted, several planes flew to other airports. The capital’s airport BER has temporarily suspended flight operations due to an action by climate activists, as a spokesman for Berlin Airport told the German Press Agency on Thursday.
Right in the middle: co-head of news for the Blick group, Jessica von Duehren-Cattani (31). “Actually, we should have arrived in Berlin at 5:30 p.m. But now everything has turned out differently,” she reports. Since the machine could not have been circling in the air all the time, instead of landing in Dresden. “Now we’re stranded here.” How and when it will continue is currently unclear.
“We will be stuck here for at least an hour and a half”
“According to an announcement, the activists are still stuck on the runway.” You don’t know how many there are. The airport is still closed. After more than half an hour of waiting, it becomes clear that the whole thing could take even longer. Reserved for the captain, we are located at the smallest airport in Germany. There were only four employees here – and six planes had already landed here, eight to ten had announced themselves. “We’ll be stuck here for at least another hour and a half,” said the captain.
Von Duehren was on her way to Berlin with her two sons Anton and Mattia (both 4) to visit her family. But not only their EasyJet machine, but also a Swiss machine would have had to switch to Dresden. “My husband is currently on the Swiss plane. This too has now landed in Dresden instead of in Berlin.”
Climate activists are streaming the action on Twitter
The activists apparently came to the airport site in two places, both on the north and on the south side. Therefore, both slopes are now closed. The federal police confirmed that several people were on the airport site. There was no more detailed information, the operation is still ongoing.
The activists streamed the action live on Twitter. There you could see how they snapped through a fence shortly after 4 p.m. and entered the airport area. They then held banners in front of the camera and explained their motives. It was also seen how activists are believed to be glued to the ground. About ten minutes after the start of the action, blue lights could be seen in the live stream, and a little later police officers could also be heard.
As of 5:30 p.m., the first flights with delays were reported on the BER homepage. The Flightradar website also showed that individual aircraft were circling not far from BER and that aircraft with selected departure times were still on the ground. (dzc/SDA)
