Batteries for electric vehicles: Large logistics company settles in Frankfurt (Oder).
The first logistics hall has been rented in the GVZ-Süd industrial area in Frankfurt (Oder). The EV Cargo group of companies was awarded the contract for the area on Autobahn 12 – the so-called Log Plaza. These will use more than 47,500 square meters of rental space for the distribution and storage of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. The city of Frankfurt announced this on Thursday.
The operator of the area, Alcaro Invest, has been building up the large logistics location since 2018. A total of six properties for around 150 million euros are to be built in the Log Plaza on around 44 hectares. These are apparently used in the region: According to the IPG infrastructure and project development company mbH are in the immediate vicinity 93 percent of the commercial space is occupied.
Peter Bergmann, project manager at Alcaro Invest, reported on Thursday that there was increasing interest in logistics space in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. According to Bergmann, the fact that the tenant of the first hall works for the electromobility industry of the future strengthens the region.
The settlement can advance the value chain in East Brandenburg. Tesla has been producing electric vehicles in Grünheide (Oder-Spree) since March, about three-quarters of an hour’s drive from Oderstadt. According to the German Press Agency, the US company currently produces around 2,000 cars a week in its only factory in Europe. According to reports, EV Cargo could handle the entire battery logistics for Tesla in Grünheide.
According to Alcaro Invest, planning applications for further logistics halls on the Log Plaza site are currently being prepared.
