Alphonso Davies shares his thoughts on the loss to Belgium in Qatar

Sugar Mizzy November 24, 2022

It’s a disappointing result against one of the best teams in the World Cup. We have two more games to play, we can get back on Sunday!a writing from the star player of Bayern Munich. Thank you to all supporters for their support.

The 22-year-old Edmonton native found himself at the heart of the action on Wednesday at the Ahmad-ben-Ali stadium located in Al Rayyan. He got a chance to score Canada’s first-ever World Cup finals goal in the 11th minute, but his go-ahead shot was saved by Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Asked by beIN Sports after the game what went through his mind as he prepared to take his shot, Davies offered a rather evasive answer: I was aware that we were on the biggest stage in the world, and I just had to play it my way. I had to respect my way of playing. Attack, and defend, with my team.

” In the end, I was a bit disappointed, but we are obviously very proud of our performance today (Wednesday). »

— A quote from Alphonse Davies

Davies also gave his thoughts on his first game in Qatar.

It was goodhe told beIN Sports, which is one of the television rights holders for the tournament. Everyone who took to the field wearing a white jersey today achieved their dream. It was not easy against Belgium, but we fought. We knew we had to validate our seriousness today, and that’s what we did.

And Davies shared head coach John Herdman’s comments after the duel.

He told us to keep our heads up. The easiest thing to do is to put your head down. We must continue to fight, to fight, and that’s what he told us.

Davies’ penalty shot was one of three shots on target for Canada in the game. Eighteen attempts missed the target.

Davies, who picked up a yellow card in the 81st minute, turned into a striker as Canada tried to tie the game late in the game.

Phonzie (Alphonso), he’s been amazing for us tonightr, Herdman reminisced after the game. He was very disciplined. He showed courage when he had to. We sometimes put him in a precarious position in certain matches. But tonight I feel like we had the perfect balance.

His reaction (after his failure) was superbhe concluded.

Of the starting XI on Wednesday, Junior Hoilett was the most successful in such circumstances – he converted all three attempts for Canada. Davies had two, and Jonathan David one.

Some observers have wondered why David did not make the shot.

The keeper dives to make the save.

Thibaut Courtois made an important save on a penalty shot on Wednesday.

We have two confident playersnoted Captain Atiba Hutchinson on Thursday. Alphonso has taken a few shots already, as has Jonathan… John (Herdman) left the final decision to the players.

Hutchinson said he met David and Davies shortly before the game.

It was not a discussion. It was more like, ‘Is it okay if you take it?’ And Phonzie had the ball in his hands, and he was obviously ready for this moment. Like I said, it’s unfortunate he missed it. He was up against a very good goalkeeper. And the ball just didn’t cross the goal line.

Courtois, who plays for Real Madrid, is the reigning Yashin Trophy champion given to the ultimate goalkeeper on the planet.

Canada, 41st in the world, face No. 12 Croatia on Sunday, and a loss would end their chances of advancing to the group stage. The representatives of the maple leaf will then face Morocco (no 22) on December 1 in group F.
