Toulouse – Bordeaux LGV project: the rail battle continues in Lot-et-Garonne
Opponents of the LGV invite to a “regional rally”, Saturday November 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the small village of Feugarolles.
At the invitation of the Association Very Great Vigilance in Albret, a “regional gathering” is organized this Saturday, November 26 in the small town of Feugarolles, a small town of Lot-et-Garonne directly concerned by the route of the future line to high speed (LGV) Toulouse / Bordeaux. This file (supported by around fifteen local authorities, but not by the Lot-et-Garonne departmental council, and which had experienced new impetus thanks to the personal intervention of former Prime Minister Jean Castex) came off the radar. , at least in the news. But there remains a major concern for his opponents, who invite Friday to say no again, before sharing “a Gascon snack”.
The organizers of this demonstration invited their counterparts, but also elected officials, from the Basque Country, Landes, Gironde, Tarn-et-Garonne and “citizens from all the departments of the South-West to reaffirm their opposition to the lines news Bordeaux / Toulouse and Bordeaux / Spain of the GPSO project”.
Modernization of current lines
Opponents have now well-established arguments. According to them, “the challenges of mobility in our territories go through the modernization of current lines and the improvement of all rail services”. They also point out the fiscal impact of the LGV financing plan on the inhabitants of the territories crossed. Moreover, the project would go against the objectives of the fight against global warming, the preservation of biodiversity and the necessary energy sobriety.
Arguments shared by the elected representatives of Europe ecology-the Greens, who fight in the local executives (in particular in the New Aquitaine Region) against this hated LGV. Elected officials pointing out again recently that “our opposition is not a problem of speed and especially not a questioning of the train as a means of ecological transport, quite the contrary. But why create a new line when there are already one that only needs to be improved in its performance, its safety, as established by a study (Claraco) which convinced the investigating commissioner, during the public utility inquiry, and that it has issued negative opinion, against a new LGV line? The credits saved will be extremely useful to improve the networks and the daily trains which really need it because the train is eminently ecological.”
However, these elements have not been heard by elected officials and the government, and the project does seem to be on track.
