Toulouse: inauguration of the “new” Sciences Po, the school now being located at the Manufacture des Tabacs
Sciences Po Toulouse inaugurates, Thursday, November 24, its new premises of the Manufacture des Tabacs, along the Brienne canal in Toulouse. The Minister of Higher Education and Research is expected for the reception.
Thursday, November 24, the day will be marked by the official inauguration of Sciences Po Toulouse which, after years of looking for a suitable place to leave the historic buildings that have become dilapidated on rue des Puits-Creusés (opposite the University of Toulouse 1 Capitole ), has been installed in the Manufacture des Tabacs, on the edge of the Brienne canal, for nearly a year. It also had a rented annex in the city center, rue Astorg, dedicated to research since 2002.
4,000 square meters
This emblematic factory in the history of Toulouse, built between 1888 and 1894 and headquarters of one of the sixteen imperial factories delivering cigars and tobacco powders, was completely redesigned by the architectural firm AMM (Architect Malacan Martres).
The school of political science has integrated two buildings B and D of the Manufacture, the students (about a thousand) have taken over the premises with an area of 4,000 m2 since January. Cost of the renovation operation, plus 3.3 million euros for Toulouse 1 Capitole University, the contracting authority.
