The parties from Romania started the “battle” on the Republic of Moldova
Two years before the parliamentary elections in Romania, more and more parties from Bucharest began to increase their presence and influence over the Prut, from simple collaborations to the recruitment of members of the Chisinau parliament or candidacy for the elections in Bessarabia.
On May 17 last year, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (GOLD) officially extended its influence from Romania to the Republic of Moldova after forming an alliance with three other parties. Thus, the Liberal Party from the Republic of Moldova led by the former mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoacă allied with AUR, after two other parties had already joined his formation project. George Simion: Save Bessarabia Union (USB) and the Romanian People’s Party (PPR).
According to the media over the Prut, AUR would then have appealed to all the unionist parties from the Republic of Moldova to join him, only the two previously mentioned formations have Simion’s camp, which are still banned from entering the territory of Moldova until 2023.
AUR’s rush to expand its influence was to participate in the early parliamentary elections that took place on July 11, 2021, marking then and the first time that a Romanian party had a candidate in an election in the Republic of Moldova. However, George Simion’s party and its allies could not replicate the success in Romania and did not even get 1% in the early elections. AUR was in tenth place among the Moldovans’ options, obtaining only over 7,200 votes (0.49%).

According to Carp, the legislation of the two countries does not prohibit him from continuing to be both a PAS member and a USR member, explaining that “on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, I am a PAS member. I am a USR member on the territory of the Greater Romania border”.
“The Republic of Moldova, Romania, are two states and one country. We will arrive within the EU with this desired in which we can say that Romanians from Bessarabia will return home when they will be part of the great European family. We will have the same legislation, single space, the same currency and we will be able to move freely on both banks of the Prut”, explained the new USR member.
