The Toulouse City Hall make an appointment with as many people as possible this Friday, November 25 to participate events organized as part of the Day international IFight against violence against women. The day before, a meditation will take place near the stele in memory of the victims, installed since 2017 on the Alain Savary esplanade in Toulouse. Then, on the evening of November 24 and 25, the Capitole will be dressed in orange lightofficial color of the anti-violence campaign.

On the day of the event, a reception and information area on the procedures, such as the victim support systems, take place in the heart of the Square Charles de Gaulle in the presence of associations and institutions committed to the fight. Booklets “Let’s act together against all forms of violence against women”, on which the emergency numbers are written, will be distributed here. For the first time this year, the Town Hall has rolled out a new “SOS Women” information brochure, containing information on support, prevention and advice structures for victims who speak little French. Also, the Toulouse bakeries will again distribute more than 200,000 “violentometer” flocked drumstick bagsto measure the degree of violence in a couple.

Shows, exhibitions, conferences, meetings…

Many cultural events are taking place in Toulouse until December 10 as part of the Days of prevention and fight against violence against women. A photographic exhibition is, for example, offered at the Secular Diversity Space. It highlights ten women between the ages of 20 and 71 who agreed to open up about their traumas linked to the violence suffered. Another exhibition, entitled “What were you wearing that day? is presented at the library of Jean-Jaurès University. It features 18 outfits inspired by those worn by rape victims. The photographs are accompanied by their testimonies.

The Octa company stages a play entitled “The influence” at the Alban-Minville cultural center in Toulouse this Wednesday, November 23. It tells the story of a woman who files a complaint against her husband and whose word is called into question. This conjugal influence will also be denounced the next day, during the screening of the film “It’s not love” at the Secular Diversity Space. Then the week will end with the organization of the festival “Girls don’t cry” at the Métronum, whose program revolves around concerts, artistic performances, exhibitions, time for exchanges and encounters.

In the sports world too, we fight against violence against women

A communication campaign “Let’s mobilize! STOP violence against women and girls », driven by sports professionals, will also be broadcast on social networks from this Friday, November 25. 14 sportswomen and sportswomen have indeed produced a video clip to announce, with strong messages, the violence suffered by women. This video will also be broadcast during professional and amateur meetings organized in the Toulouse Metropolis, like the rugby matches between Colomiers and Grenoble, then Stade Toulousain at USAP, TBC basketball matches against Lorient and TMB against Saint-Amand, or the Spacer’s volleyball match against Tourcoing. The players will wear an orange t-shirt in support of the victims of violence.

The measures put in place by the City of Toulouse to fight against violence

The Town Hall of Toulouse is taking advantage of the organization of the International Day for the Fight against Violence against Women to take stock of all the measures put in place in the city to try to eradicate this scourge. So she pulse the launch of Angela project aimed at creating a network of safe places, such as bars, hotels or shops, in which victims of violence or street harassment can take refuge in case of danger. To be able to identify these partner establishments, a round sticker, yellow in color, with the inscription “Here, ask Angela”, is stuck on the storefronts. As indicated, it is necessary that victims demand to see “Angela” to make professionals understand that they feel insecure.

Also, a communication campaign aimed at young people will soon be included in the form of posters and video spots broadcast in universities, schools and U restaurants, in order to raise students’ awareness of the risks of sexist and sexual violence, particularly in festive environments. Through this, the municipality “wants to recall the need to discharge the consent of the person concerned and the right of the latter to refuse the advances. Thus lifting a taboo by giving young people the opportunity to broach the subject among themselves”. Finally, to denounce all of this violence, the Town Hall organizes a march this Friday, November 25, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., departing from the Place de la Légion d’honneur. The procession will then take the direction of Square Charles de Gaulle, where the reception area and information on the subject will be installed.
