Snow in Veneto and Trentino

Sprinkling of 3cm snow, during the night, in Cortina d’Ampezzo. With bad weather, above 1,000-1,200 meters it snowed in most of the Veneto. More intense phenomena in Val Zoldana and in some parts of the Vicenza Pre-Alps where 10 centimeters of snow fell. From 6 to 8 centimeters instead between Alleghe and Falcade. Finally, 7 centimeters on Monte Piana, in front of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Lake Misurina. In the lowlands it rains heavily, with traffic slowdowns, and along the coasts the wind, initially from the south and then from the north, north-east, has caused heavy storms with damage to the beaches. Some dams of bathing establishments have been submerged, such as that of the Excelsior hotel on the Venice Lido. There are currently no injuries. According to the Veneto Regional Agency for the Environment, the weather is generally disturbed with extensive rainfall, sometimes heavy, with generally consistent quantities of rainfall and in some cases abundant in central-eastern areas. The reinforcement of the winds is defined as ‘marcatò’, initially from the Scirocco, then from the north or north-east, sometimes even strong both on the plains and on the coast and on the hills, with possible gusts even very strong.

Fiumicino, families stuck at home

Some people were blocked by the water in their homes in Fiumicino, in via del Passo della Sentinella, near the mouth of the Tiber, due to the violent wave of bad weather that also hit Lazio. The firefighters are engaged with four teams and with the core of divers and are supported in operations by an amphibious vehicle.

Molise, in Matese there is no electricity

Bad weather is raging throughout Molise. The rain and strong winds create problems and inconveniences. The Matese area was particularly affected, where there were also power outages. Several floods. Schools closed this morning in Bojano (Campobasso). In several municipalities, trees and branches ended up on the roads. The weather alert issued by the Civil Protection concerns the whole day today.

Abruzzo, Sangro river above the alarm level

The Civil Protection Functional Center of Abruzzo announces that “the reading of the hydrometric levels of the Sangro river telemetry network signals that the alarm threshold has been exceeded and a gradual increase” and recommends “to implement the actions envisaged in the Municipal Plan of Emergency”. For the area in question, the Alto del Sangro basin, a highly critical bulletin was issued yesterday – red alert. Other areas at risk are the upper basin of the Marsica and the Aterno basin, for which the bulletin speaks of ‘moderate criticality – orange alert’, in the first case for widespread hydraulic risk and in the second for localized hydrogeological risk. Yellow alert in the rest of the region. As announced, the perturbation reached Abruzzo during the night, where it has been raining incessantly for hours. If the inland areas are the ones most at risk, bad weather is also affecting the coast. In Pescara, for example, intense rainfall has been underway since the night. According to the surveys of the Aq Caput Frigoris association, the rainiest place is Villetta Barrea (L’Aquila), with a value of 133.6 mm of rain fallen; on Mount Genzana the gusts of wind exceeded 120 kilometers per hour.

Avezzano, schools closed in the Marsican municipalities

“Given the adverse weather conditions, the educational activities of all levels of the Istituto Comprensivo di Balsorano and San Vincenzo are suspended today 22 November”. This is what we read on the Facebook page of the Municipality of San Vincenzo Valle Roveto (L’Aquila), in the Marsica area. «We have received several reports on the highway of sections with the presence of large quantities of water and poor visibility – we still read on the social page – Given the copious rains, please pay the utmost attention and go out only if necessary. Boulders have fallen on the provincial road to Castronovo and the Province has been alerted and is intervening. All administrators remain available to report any problems. After a careful survey of the administrators in all the hamlets, the in our municipality does not present any critical situation. The rains have subsided and should end in the late afternoon. We always recommend that you pay attention.”

Venice, high water blocked by the Mose

The high tide in Venice reached 173 centimeters above sea level in the Adriatic at 9.40 today, but was successfully stopped by the Mose bulkheads, which have been in operation since 2.00 today, on the three inlets. Only 62 centimeters of tide was recorded in the lagoon at Punta della Dogana della Salute. Without the Mose 82% of the historic city would have been flooded. The forecasts gave a peak of 170 centimeters, the third by gravity after the tides of November 4, 1966 (194) and November 12, 2019 (187).

Inconvenience from the Castelli Romani to Fiumicino

Inconvenience during the night linked to the wave of bad weather that hit the capital. In fact, there are about 80 interventions carried out by the fire brigade teams. The most affected areas are those of the Castelli Romani, Prenestina and Tiburtina, where interventions were made for requests related to unsafe trees or branches, unsafe signs, flooding and water damage in general. At the moment the firefighters are engaged in via del Passo della Sentinella, in Fiumicino (Idroscalo), where the staff of the diving unit with 4 additional teams in support and the amphibious vehicle, are providing for the recovery of some people trapped in their homes following floods.

At approximately 8 am, in Ostia, in the seaplane base area, a small part of the breakwater barrier gave way due to the strong storm in progress. Flooding and landslides in the Oristano area

The wave of bad weather that is hitting Italy in these hours is not giving Sardinia a break, at the center of a strong Atlantic perturbation that has triggered the red alert in the Oristano area since yesterday evening, with the first rains they have created hardships especially in the province. The most serious situation in Bosa, with the flooding of the city streets in the center of the town: the mayor Piero Franco Casula, after having already closed all the schools since yesterday, has also issued an ordinance forbidding citizens to stay on the lower floors of houses in areas at risk, due to the risk of flooding of the river Temo which crosses the town in the north-west of Sardinia. In the area also mudslides and landslides, such as in Montrestra. Throughout the Oristano area it was a super job for the firefighters who sent all the teams to work on the uprooted light poles, uprooted trees and sheds uncovered by the wind. In Assolo, where there was an electrical blackout, a generator was also installed in the home of a woman who needs automatic respirator connected to the network. There are currently 14 interventions still queued. There are also incessant rains in the Cagliari area and in the Sulcis area: in Iglesias trees and road signs have ended up on the cars, but at the moment there are no injuries. Interventions by the firefighters also in Carbonia and San Vito.

Waves over three meters are putting a strain on beaches and bathing facilities Host up to the north coast of Rome. Concern in particular on the coast of southern Fregene, which has long been struggling with serious erosion problems. In some stretches of Focene the water has reached close to the inhabited centre, while flooding has been reported in the Passo della Sentinella area, in Fiumara Grande, at the mouth of the Tiber. The wind, with peaks of up to 90 kilometers per hour, is affecting the coast and in Fiumicino, all the fishing boats have sheltered upstream of the canal port, due to the strong wave motion of the navigable canal.
