Young Uzbek rescued from mountain distress
timeline
On the Hochstaufen, also Salzburg’s local mountain near Bad Reichenhall, emergency services rescued a 20-year-old student from Uzbekistan. He had read on the internet that the summit was the most beautiful vantage point of Salzburg. During his wanderings, he got caught in snowstorms and darkness.
According to the mountain rescue operations management, the hiker started his tour when the sun was still shining. He hadn’t counted on the storm that came up a little later, with a field of up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow. So he seeks shelter in a rock niche and asked the emergency services for help on his mobile phone. In the meantime it was already getting dark.
Together in the valley
After two hours of searching, 15 mountain rescuers from Bad Reichenhall found the 20-year-old on the so-called Jägersteig. They provided him with tea and provisions. He was roped up and taken down to the valley unharmed.
The work of the volunteers lasted a total of five hours. The hiker from Central Asia comes from a country with many high mountains and alpine landscapes, where mountaineering among young people is similar to that in Austria.
