Why were employees of Carrefour Fontvieille in Monaco on strike on Monday?
Some 140 of them were gathered in front of the entrance to the Fontvieille shopping mall at the call of the trade union (affiliated to the USM). Among their demands: a 5% salary increase and a bonus of 1,000 euros (1). “There have never been so many of us mobilizers. About forty of us are even showing up for the first time”supports Amor Ben Hamida, staff representative and union representative.
And his counterpart Alexandra Oukdim to abound: “This represents 80% of employees on permanent contracts who are on strike today”.
“Carrefour Monaco when it suits”
Faced with this mobilization, the union representatives were received at the beginning of the afternoon on Monday by the management of the hypermarket. But, for them, the conclusion is bitter. “The management does not want to know anything” and sticks to his proposals: a salary increase of 2.5% and a bonus of 100 euros.
“The employees are outraged and even more motivated to continue the movement.”
Walkouts lasting several hours are announced this week and in the coming weeks until Christmas, followed by a new 48-hour strike on December 23 and 24.
“The management does not want to give us more than France, where the FO union signed the agreement of 2.5% increase and 100 euros bonus”, details Alexandra Oukdim.
“Except that in France, employees have a 5% break package (where we are at 1%) and a more interesting collective agreement than ours, continues Amor Ben Hamida. We are Carrefour Monaco when it suits them.”
What management says
For its part, the management of Carrefour makes it known that it is not going back on the proposals required of employees, namely: a salary increase of 2.5% on November 1, 2022, “i.e. +8.32% since August 2021”. As well as a bonus of 100 euros and “the extension of the 12% shopping discount until March 31, 2023”.
And the management of Carrefour Monaco to recall: “As a reminder, the purchasing power support measures put in place by Carrefour for 1 year break down as follows: 5.82% salary increases granted since August 2021, inflation compensation doubled in November 2021 by €200, a revaluation of the discount on purchases from 10% to 12% and a first result up 13% compared to 2021″.
