University of Minho welcomes higher education officials from Portugal and Galicia
Some of the main academic and political figures from Portugal and Galicia are debating this Tuesday, at the Minho’s university, inter-university cooperation and the challenges of higher education. This is the “2nd Seminar for Senior University Positions” and takes place from 10:00 to 13:15, in the IB-S auditorium (building 18) on the Gualtar campus, in Braga.
The event is part of the UNISF project, which unites the universities of Minho, Porto, Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, A Corunha, Santiago de Compostela and Vigo, along with the Center for Euro-Regional Studies Foundation (CEER). This university-supported project launches four pioneering postgraduate courses at a cooperative, cross-border and multidisciplinary level this year.
The opening of the seminar counts with the rector of UMinho, Rui Vieira de Castro, the vice-rector of UMinho and coordinator of UNISF – Universities Without Borders, Filomena Soares, and the director of the CEER Foundation, Ángel Miramontes. This is followed by a panel with the president of the Higher Education Assessment and Accreditation Agency, João Guerreiro, the director of the Agency for the Quality of the University System of Galicia, Eduardo López Pereira, and the director of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Galicia-North from Portugal, Nuno Almeida.
At 12:00 noon, the rectors of A Coruña, Julio Abalde Alonso, of Santiago de Compostela, Antonio Lopez, of Vigo, Manuel Reigosa Roger, of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Emídio Gomes, of Porto, António Sousa Pereira, and from Minho, Rui Vieira de Castro. Under analysis are the harmonization and potential of higher education, in addition to the retrospective and future of the UNISF consortium. Half an hour later, it is time to listen to the chairman of the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the North (CCDR-N), António Cunha. The UNISF project made it possible for the six public universities in northwest Iberia to create this academic year the master’s degree in Challenges of Cities and the master’s degree in Transnational Business Law and Digital Technologies, in addition to doctorates in Mathematics and Applications and in Social Sciences and Aging. The partners have also promoted various actions and strengthened relations at a training, pedagogical, scientific and digital level, among others.
