Tupperware in Portugal prepares to lay off several employees
The sharp drop in sales is leading the Tupperware factory, in Constância, to start a friendly decision-making process with a staff member. With more than 40 years of operation in the municipality, the company is one of the main employers in the region.
The factory located in Portugal of this multinational company is the largest in Europe and has been operating for over 40 years.
The current defense scenario combined with the abrupt drop in sales is forcing Tupperware to cut the number of employees. In September more than 100 temporary workers had already been laid off and now, many of the more than 200 troops are at the same risk.
The municipality is studying the possibility of intervening in the situation and Sérgio Oliveira, mayor of Constância, admits that he is already in contact with the IEFP, in order to guide the workers who will become unemployed.
“The IEFP is in contact with the Chamber, with a view to guiding workers who in the meantime become unemployed and the Chamber has made itself available to accommodate a space in the municipality so that the IEFP could give a closer follow-up to people”, says the mayor .
So far, contract termination procedures have already been initiated with eight employeesbut this question will be evaluated “the week”🇧🇷 The President of the Chamber believes that the company will not close its doors and hopes that “The situation evolves favourably”.
