By 2030, the City of Toulouse has set itself the goal of plant 100,000 trees. Over the current mandate, this should represent the planting of 60,400 trees. The community has committed to planting 22,600 trees.
15,000 trees planted by individuals and businesses
Over 6 years, out of the 60,400 trees to be planted, 15,000 trees must be planted in private space, as part of redevelopment projects, the town hall had announced.
At the same time, 15,000 trees will be planted on the estate of individuals or companies, which “will correspond to 25% of the total number of trees that will be planted over the next mandate and to just over a third of the additional effort compared to the rate of current plantation”, indicated to Toulouse newsClément Riquet, municipal councilor in charge of gardens and green spaces at the town hall of Toulouse.
Two essences already diffused
To encourage Toulouse residents to plant trees, the town hall already offers two species of trees to plant during two general public events: during Plant Capitol in October and during Municipal Greenhouse Open Days in May.
The City will continue to distribute these tree species during these two events.
The plant palette, the guide to trees to plant
On Wednesday, November 9, the city council approved the distribution of a general public guide, a plant palette, to facilitate the planting of trees adapted to climate change.
This guide, drawn up by the town hall of Toulouse, was entitled “100 trees adapted to the Toulouse climate”.
“He selects around a hundred species adapted to the current and future Toulouse climate. It details in an educational and accessible way the essential information on the species offered: origin, longevity, size, foliage, flowering, fruiting, exposure, type of soil, etc…”, indicates Toulouse Métropole.
Where to find the plant palette?
This guide for the general public is available on the website of the town hall of Toulouse on the “Tree Plan” project page and will be available at neighborhood town halls and at events like Capitole Végétal.
“This educational document, the result of expert work, supports companies, administrations, individuals and associations in their plantation projects. Our desire is to revegetate the city on the land where it has control, but also to create a ripple effect for all of Toulouse society. This is the spirit of our Plan Arbres and the distribution of this document constitutes an additional step in this direction”, commented Clément Riquet during the municipal council.
