the place in Vienna that makes grandparents and grandchildren work together
In the center of Vienna there is the Full Board café (Cafe Vollepension) in which cakes and baked goods are cooked by students and pensioners. The restaurant, which has been open for ten years, looks like a normal Viennese café where the industrial structure with exposed bricks is combined with vintage furniture and finishes.
Mom not only the furnishings are vintage; most of the cakes are in fact prepared by grandmothers (and grandfathers, in some cases) with a passion for pastry. The term “full board”, in fact, in addition to referring to the hotel scheme in which the price paid for the stay also includes the main meals, in Austria also indicates the sum paid by the state to the elderly, the pension .
The desserts prepared range from the classic grandmother’s cake, to apple, chocolate and, of course, strudel and sacher cannot be missing; these are simple dishes that smell of home and family memories and which, precisely for this reason, entice customers to sit down and enjoy them calmly. The stop at the tables (given the numerous requests) is allowed for a period that varies between 30 and 60 minutes, but it can be extended into the morning in the case of large breakfasts. From Full Board, delivery is also provided and the desserts can therefore be received at home.
This reality, in which the elderly are employed on a regular part-time contractsee work together grandparents (who spend time and supplement their pension) and boys (often the grandchildren who enter the world of work for the first time). The idea, which seems to have come about by chance, is working great and the place is always full of customers curious to taste the new products of the day.
