The Pd that excels in Genoa squeezed between the new and Moratti – Primocanale.it
Maybe in the category of aging badly, a topic around which Maurizio Maggiani gave an incomparable essay in Secolo XIX on Sunday, not understanding also belongs. In fact, the question arises: what is happening in the Democratic Party? So: it is decided to anticipate the celebration of the congress, only that in the end the primaries will take place a month before, and perhaps even, March 2023, i.e. the date originally indicated for choosing Enrico Letta’s successor. All this brothel for about thirty days?
And oh well. But here’s another one. If the mess that those already living under that roof weren’t enough, a change in the rules will also allow incompatibles from the past to compete for leadership. The clause seems tailor-made to allow the candidacy of Elly Schlein, one who doesn’t say everything to throw away but who at one point disgusted the Democratic Party, after supporting Pippo Civati in the 2013 primaries and obtaining, the year later, a seat as MEP.
Now, as an independent, she is a deputy. But he lets it be known that he will return under the banner of the Democratic Party precisely because he aspires to his maximum office. She will challenge the governor Stefano Bonaccini, of which she is the deputy in Emilia Romagna. Shall we say an oddity? Let’s say it. Although perhaps at “piddine” latitudes it isn’t even the most… strange.
And the currents, who in recent years have been recognized by all observers as the main male of the Democratic Party? The deputies Quartapelle and Madia have asked for its dissolution, also appealing to common sense. But for the moment nothing is being done about it, because the Franceschinis, the Orlandos, the Orfinis, the Nardellas, the Guerinis and so on, including bosses and their immediate supporters, are still very strong.
Indeed, the component led by Franceschini it might as well back Schlein. I’d be curious to see if you’ll say that you don’t like it, or rather that you reject it, proposing astonishing renovations. Bonaccini, on the point, has already been lapidary: “I will not ask any current to support me, nor will I accept the support of any current”. At least that’s clear talk.
In the background is the proposal that however, in my opinion, remains the most effective and credible and which comes from the Ligurian Brando Benifei: away with the secretary and away with the entire front line of the Democratic Party. A full-blown clean sweep, otherwise it will be yet another hot pannicello, as if many have already been seen in recent years.
In fact, while all this is happening, a still substantial part of the party would like to support the candidacy of Letizia Moratti as president of Lombardy, in the upcoming regional elections of 2023. For heaven’s sake, Moratti is a strong, very strong, but also one who has made her entire career as a bishop of the center-right. She now she comes to tell us, despite having been her until yesterday deputy and councilor of the Northern League Fontana, who for reasons of consistency (!) no longer meets there and is therefore ready to try her hand at the center-left (the so-called Third Pole has already blessed her as its candidate).
In recent days, on this same site, colleague Davide Lentini wondered if it was a guarantee of success for the Democratic Party to swerve to the left. That thought is too sophisticated, dear Davide. I would stay lower down: how would you explain it to a voter from Genoa, that city which despite everything continues to vote for Pd well above the national average, which could be represented in the most important Italian region by someone whose political career, albeit stellar, did he do it all the other way around?
I cannot give such an explanation. So I say it as it comes to me: maybe I’m stoned! Perhaps, because when he questions several people of proven “Piddine” faith on the matter, he aims not to be the only one in the dark. And patience if they are elderly like me. But if anyone who sails under forty and even under thirty has my same doubts, then I conclude that the problem is not mine. I may also be aging badly, to quote Maggiani, but with this Pd whoever understands us is good…
