Refugees in the exhibition center let waves go up – Salzburg
Salzburg’s exhibition center could accommodate up to 400 refugees by the end of the month. The waves in the city of Mozart are already rising.
A few days ago, the head of Salzburg’s civil protection department approached him and asked that Hall 10 be kept free until the end of February after the career information fair (BIM), Salzburg’s mayor confirmed Harald Pruner (ÖVP) of the “Krone” – and thus lets the waves rise with the opposition.
“Of course you can’t let people sleep on the street. But nobody really enjoys it either. The trade fair will certainly only be a bridging quarter,” the city manager is aware of the precarious request. The capacity in the exhibition center would be around 400 people, and a private security service should ensure security on the site.

“400 people from a non-cultural area cannot be kept in check even by a security guard. Mayor Harald Preuner has to respond to the [Martina Berthold] show their limits,” fears the FPÖ city party leader Dominik Maier a loss of millions on the part of the exhibitors and the trade fair.

Whether as a corona field hospital, vaccination route, test station or arrival center for Ukrainians – in recent years the exhibition center has already turned out to be the country’s strategic reserve several times. Berthold’s team has 15 other possible accommodations on the radar. It is still uncertain whether the fair will be needed at all, according to the office of the green state councillor.
