Monaco wants to take first place in the Euroleague this Tuesday
This Tuesday evening, AS Monaco Basket faces Fenerbahce on behalf of the ninth day of Euroloigue. The Monegasques can, in the event of victory, take the lead in European competition by beating their opponent on Tuesday. The Principality’s players, impressive in difficulty in Europe and in the league – beaten by Limoges on Sunday evening – will want to win for the second time this year against the Stambouliotes. Last February, the Monegasques won 92-78 against the Turks on the 27th day of this same competition. However, at the time, Fenerbahce players were not in the same form as at the start of the season.
At home, the Monegasques are very solid and have won six times in their last eight games at home. In the Salle Gaston Medecin, Monaco have won all of their Euroleague matches and will be favorites in the game, even if their opponents’ away record is far from bad. All competitions combined, the Turks have not been beaten only by FC Barcelona (81-80) this season.
After the victory against Baskonia, the Serbian coach of AS Monaco, Sasa Obradovic, nevertheless warned that his team was not unbeatable.
“In the Euroleague, all the games are at this level of intensity. I have the feeling that this competition is stronger than ever. We played at our best level, except in the third quarter. […] When you play with too much individualism, you don’t succeed. In the first half, we made a few mistakes, which put this team back on track. Each time, on a down. Like the solid job done on Howard (top three-point scorer in the competition who only scored three points, editor’s note). But we are not unbeatable. We are going to lose games. A defeat is not a disaster. It will then be important to remain calm, to continue to move forward step by step, in order to create a solid foundation.”
