EU cohesion policy, €148 million for a just climate transition in the Bouches-du-Rhône » PACA’s economic and political newsletter
Following the decision, price by the Commission, 148 million euros from the Just Transition Fund (FTJ) will support the just transition to a climate-neutral economy in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
The Bouches du Rhône represent 17.18% of France’s CO2 emissions.
Through investments in research and innovation, the JTF supports the region’s decarbonization of the four most productive industries (fossil fuel coking and refining, metallurgy, mineral and non-metallic chemical production). This will stimulate industrial innovation in renewable energy and resource recycling.
The Fund also supports the circular economy by using more recycled and biosourced materials. It will promote a greener energy mix through investments in renewable energy for buildings, wind power and biomass.
The Territorial Just Transition Plans (TJTPs) identify the territories that will benefit from the support of the FTJ following a dialogue with the Commission and local partners as part of the negotiations of the 2021-2027 partnership agreements. The Commission approved thePartnership Agreement with France in May 2022. The TJTPs also allow financing within the framework ofInvestEU (a just transition regime) and the Public Sector Just Transition Loan Facility (combining Commission grants with European Bank investment loans).
