Bilbao Basket knows the history of the Miribilla mines
The historian and professor at the University of Deusto, Maria Jesús Cava, was invited by Bilbao Basket to the ‘Men In Black’ locker room to teach the players the origins of the place where their court is located, the Bilbao Arena. In this way, the players had the opportunity to travel to the past and understand the ins and outs and most relevant events of the place they defend on the track. Cava, with the help of archive photographs, presented the ‘men in black’ in the mines of San Luis, Malaspera and Abandonada.
Hundreds of workers from different places abandoned their sweat, effort and sacrifice for the sake of the prosperity of Bilbao. Making a comparison, now it is other workers (the Men In Black) who, coming from different parts of the planet, are trying to raise a project together and defend the name of Bilbao from that same neighborhood.
The initiative incorporated cultural dissemination as a value to share. It was an emotional, evocative talk, with a large amount of information and in which there was room for humor. A look at the past to understand the present that will help veterans and newcomers to understand the meaning of the shirt they defend. “We want to thank María Jesús Cava for his dedication and willingness to help us build a team aware of its own history,” said the club chaired by Isabel Iturbe.
