«Almost half of all data runs on Oracle»
Switzerland boss Billy Kneubühl knows: “Almost half of all data runs on Oracle.” If the leading company has its way, the data will reside in the cloud in the future. Swiss customers are taking the path to the cloud.
Hundreds of well-known companies in Switzerland rely on Oracle technology for data management and IT systems. Thanks to Oracle’s extensive portfolio today, Country Leader Switzerland, Billy Kneubühl, will be able to offer Swiss customers the complete IT stack for digital transformation. As he also says in the interview, there are particularly large deficits in the digital sector in the healthcare sector.
Computerworld: After 20 years at IBM, you have now been with Oracle for a year. What attracted you to this position?
Billy Kneubühl: The position as head of Oracle in Switzerland has enabled me to show companies in their technological transformation and how to innovate with IT. In this role I have the opportunity to do this with a broad and very comprehensive portfolio and to realize myself with customers in all possible industries. Oracle is optimally positioned to support companies undergoing digital transformation. We enable digital transformation and help our clients manage the complex challenges that await them during this process.
CW: Both IBM and Oracle have longstanding customers in Switzerland. What differences do you see?
KNeubuehl: Something that certainly makes Oracle very different is our ability to offer ERP, HCM, SCM and many more business applications. This, combined with our cloud capabilities, allows Oracle to work with the various functions within an organization. Another difference is that Oracle Cloud solutions can be deployed the way a business needs them. From a highly standardized public cloud to a very dedicated local private cloud that can serve the most sensitive and secure scenarios.
CW: How is Oracle’s business going in Switzerland?
Kneubühl: Our business is understanding the challenges our customers face – supply chain issues, labor shortages, energy crises, global health crises, all while customer expectations are rising. We have long enabled our customers across all industries and lines of business to move, innovate, be responsive and respond faster to new demands to solve the world’s most pressing problems with the help of technology.
To achieve this, we must focus on continuous innovation and introduce new partnerships and applications. We partner with the industry to support our customers’ multi-cloud strategies because we know that’s what our customers need. Multi-cloud adoption is on the rise—and for good reason. Organizations benefit in multiple ways when they make the leap to multi-vendor implementations. In Switzerland there are many examples from the goods inspection group SGS to the selection of various cloud providers by the Swiss Confederation.
