Access to Monaco: “President Macron encourages increased dialogue with the authorities of the department”, confides Prince Albert II
The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis recently voted to create a funnel outside Monaco to eliminate traffic during peak hours. What is your point of view on this upcoming project which has sown discord between the mayor of Cap-d’Ail and the president of the Metropolis?
I am delighted with this reflection that we are carrying out with the Metropolis, the Prefecture and all the neighboring municipalities to solve the extremely complex problems of mobility. This is a crucial subject for the life of the Principality. Whatever our decisions on the travel policies to put in place, they must be part of a global logic with the neighboring department. Advances have been made such as this Cap-d’Ail hopper, such as the Beausoleil motorway ramp which will open soon.
The Principality favors a multiple approach on the subjects of mobility: the train, the bus, carpooling, the use of electric bicycles, mechanical connections, park and ride facilities. Improving service to Monaco station is also a priority issue on which we must obtain additional commitments from the French authorities. Everything that can be done with reasonable and shared budgets, and without disfiguring the landscape, must be implemented. We are in favor of it.
How can we concretely advance these questions, which suffer from administrative delays in France?
As you know, with more than 60,000 employees, including nearly 44,000 commuters, we are one of the largest employment pools in the far south-east of France. Everything that is done to perpetuate the development of the Principality and its decongestion interests our French friends, and by extension the French administrative strata.
It is essential to activate all possible levers to initiate projects quickly. President Macron is fully aware of this and encourages increasing this dialogue with the authorities of the department for subjects as sensitive as those of traffic and mobility.
