Toulouse: “Police investigation services suffering”
94 new police officers have been assigned to Toulouse in recent months. They have reinforced the public road workforce. The unions want reinforcements in the investigation services.
In October 2020, Prime Minister Jean Castex and Mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc signed the first integrated security contract in France. In particular, he promised the arrival, by the end of 2022, of 111 national police reinforcements. These reinforcements arrived in successive waves. They are today 94 civil servants to have enlarged the workforce of Toulouse public security. The final twenty-five were welcomed this month.
“At the moment, there is a shortage, observes Lionel Ricaud, departmental secretary of the Alliance police union. It should be noted that retirements and transfers weaken our basic base, which should be around 1,100 plus 111. These arrivals are just keeping the workforce constant.” Didier Martinez, regional secretary of the SGP police unit union, also notes: “We are not up to the challenges and the commitment made. We are still in deficit both on the public highway and for the investigation. “
55,000 files not processed
Franck Rastoul, the attorney general of the Toulouse Court of Appeal, deplored in September that 55,000 cases had not been processed by the Toulouse police. According to Lionel Ricaud, “we manage to maintain the number of police officers on the ground but we put the investigation services overdue, which urgently need to be staffed”. To respect the commitment made in the first integrated security contract signed in France, the State must still assign 17 police officers to the departmental management of Haute-Garonne by December 31.
