Siena: at the Scotte the meeting “The many faces of gender-based violence”
The phenomenon of gender-based violence requires careful and continuous analysis with a multi- and trans-disciplinary perspective. At the same time, it is necessary to adopt an intersectional approach which allows for the identification of the existing connections between gender-based violence and other forms of infirmity and marginality. The fight against gender-based violence inextricably depends on the fight against discrimination and gender stereotypes, which necessarily depends on the institutions’ ability to contribute to the affirmation of an ever greater awareness of the reality and the multiple dimensions of this unfortunately ever-present phenomenon. Femicide is its most macroscopic and best-known expression, but many other forms of violence can be misunderstood, underestimated or even not caring, not infrequently by the victims themselves.
