- SC Bern has to bow 1:5 to HC Lugano in Sunday evening’s National League game.
- Geneva-Servette easily beats Ajoie 5-2 at home.
- Lausanne’s Cory Emmerton scored the decisive goal in the 3-2 home win against Langnau.
Lugano – Berne 5: 1
The change of coach away from Johan Lundskog and towards Toni Söderholm has not yet borne fruit at SCB. The Bernese also had to admit defeat in their second game under the Finnish neo-coach. The 1:3 against Freiburg on Saturday was followed by a 1:5 in Lugano on Sunday. The party in Ticino had started well for Bern. In the 11th minute, Sven Bärtschi opened the scoring with a majority. The Luganesi’s reaction, however, was prompt and violent. Luca Fazzini and Brett Connolly turn the game before the 1st siren. After just 16 seconds in the middle, Markus Granlund increased it to 3:1, shortly after the middle of the game it was already 4:1 for the home team. Marco Müller set the final point with a shorthander in the 53rd minute. For Lugano it was the 3rd victory de suite.
Geneva – Ajoie 5:2
The 5:1 by Geneva’s Benjamin Antonietti (50th) was symbolic of the class difference between leader Geneva and taillight Ajoie: Antonietti reacted the fastest to an unnecessary loss of a disc by the Jurassiers on the blue line, only to then load Damiano Ciaccio ice-coldly. Martin Bakos’ goal (53rd) to make it 2:5 showed morale, but was not able to initiate Ajoie’s turnaround. Serviette is now 11 points ahead of EHC Biel, but has 2 games more in their legs.
Lausanne 3-2 SCL Tigers
67 kilometers of motorway further east, Lausanne had to put in much more effort for its home win. The decision didn’t come until the 54th minute: with the score at 2:2 and a power play, the Emmentaler had the chance to re-establish the lead. Instead, however, it was Lausanne’s Cory Emmerton who shot his colors to victory with a shorthander. The LHC was two goals down until the 36th minute and goals from Jules Sturny (5th) and Joel Salzgeber (24th) before Martin Gernat brought the French-speaking Swiss side to a 2-2 lead with a brace.
