In Extenso SuperSevens: Monaco wins the tournament in an unleashed Paris La Défense Arena
Rugby, music, entertainment and lots of good humor. For its third edition, the Paris La Défense Arena hosted this Saturday, November 19 the final stages of the In Extenso SuperSevens, the French rugby sevens tournament of the National Rugby League (LNR). Eight teams were in competition for the trophy: Stade Rochelais, Racing 92, Stade Français, Monaco Rugby Sevens, Section Pau, Barbarians, Aviron Bayonnais and Union Bordeaux Bègles.

At the end of a day full of emotions and in front of more than 15,000 people, Monaco rugby Sevens was crowned champion of this 2022 edition against Section Paloise (24 to 14). A nice revenge for this small club born only three years ago especially for this tournament and which came second in the previous edition.

“It’s a victory that is super important, we are really very happy to be able to win the title this year. This SuperSevens is really a great discipline in France, especially with this final which was hotly contested after the final (lost, editor’s note) last year. This SuperSevens is really a super choice for rugby sevens in France, ”said Johan Demai-Hamecher, the Monegasque captain at the microphone of Canal +.
The Racingmen fell in the semi-finals against a far too strong Section Paloise (21 to 19). Champions of the first edition of 2020, Ciel & Blanc were able, like last year, to slip into third place on the podium by beating Stade Français in a derby (28 to 14) in the small final. Following the ranking we find Stade Français (fourth), then Baabaas, holder of the previous title (fifth), Aviron bayonnais (sixth), Union Bordeaux-Bègles (seventh) and Stade Rochelais (eighth) .
The young Bayonnais Victor Hannoun was awarded the “Trophée Révélation In Extenso”. Aged 19, this rising star of rugby, had already been rewarded with the same trophy during the summer stage of Perpignan last August.

But the In Extenso SuperSevens was not just about sport. This ten-hour day was punctuated by numerous activities, including the much-appreciated demonstration by the gymnastics group of the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) and by the choreographies of the performers from the program “Drag Race France”. Embarked on a platform suspended above the synthetic lawn of the arena, the French DJ Feder meanwhile set fire to it with a powerful musical show.

If for the moment the dates of the next edition as well as the qualified teams are not yet known, one thing is certain, the final phases of the In Extenso SuperSevens 2023 will take place once again at the Paris La Défense Arena. For 2024 and beyond, nothing is decided yet…
