British Airways cancels Pristina, changes EX-YU operations for summer
British Airways has suspended ticket sales for its seasonal summer flights between London Heathrow and Pristina and has made changes to some of its operations in Croatia and Slovenia for the summer of 2023. After two consecutive years of seasonal flights between Heathrow and Pristina, the airline this week discontinued online ticket sales. He initially scheduled a two-week rotation between the two cities before revising his summer network. This development comes after easyJet recently canceled its London Gatwick – Pristina route. It leaves Wizz Air as the only operator between the UK and Pristina with its flights to London Luton.
British Airways plans to start its second daily service between Heathrow and Zagreb at the very beginning of the 2023 summer season, on March 26. This year, its operations to the Croatian capital were severely affected by staff shortages and passenger restrictions at its main hub to London, which forced the carrier to cancel a significant number of its flights. Services were reduced to just four per week during the high season in July and six per week in August, failing to achieve the planned double daily rotation throughout the season. On the other hand, summer flights to Pula take place twice a week, but should end on September 24, ten days earlier than this year.
The national carrier of the United Kingdom will also maintain up to thirteen weekly flights to Dubrovnik from Gatwick and Heathrow airports, as well as thirteen weekly rotations to Split from Heathrow and City airports. Flights to Ljubljana will take place five times a week, starting on May 23, but ending ten days earlier, on September 24, compared to this year. British Airways hopes to avoid this summer’s network-wide flight cancellations due to staff shortages by hiring more cabin crew in time. The carrier also increased crew wages by 8%.
