Hanover. The topic is off the table for now. On the stands of the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena, in rounds of betting games, and at this point it was of course rightly discussed: Hannover 96 actually needs a real clipper to get promoted. Despite this, Havard Nielsen and Cedric Teuchert have each scored seven times. Who needs a new striker? And: Does the squad of the second division fifth need reinforcement at all?

Mann’s and Leitl’s squad plan must have fitted accordingly in the summer. Incidentally, at Hannover 96 the contract extension of Mann is still in the room. His contract ends in the summer. Since the 96 professional boss is quite proud of his manager discovery a year and a half ago, nothing should stand in the way of an extension from a 96 perspective. Mann says he is not the right person to talk to about the subject. But he really is. Because with all due respect from and for 96 – Mann’s family still lives in the south of the republic. If there is just a weekend without a game, like right now, the 96 manager brings the time with the family. But such days are rare.
No theater with Sebastian Kerk
Coach Stefan Leitl and manager Marcus Mann have a few more ideas for the squad. But the squad strength is already 28 players, there are no injuries, but some dissatisfied like Tim Walbrecht, Sebastian Kerk or Sebastian Stolze. “There’s no point in inflating the roster now,” explains Mann. No new players in winter and transfer freeze before launch of January market – 96 does not grab at clearance sales. However, if squad positions become free, things could look different.

However, Hanover is participating in the winter sale. The squad model, which is calibrated for unity, cannot use dissatisfied people. So far, all players have behaved confidently. At Kerk, of course, everyone knows about the disappointment. Four games were missing recently, before the Darmstadt game Kerk was even thrown out of the squad. “It can’t all have seasons, but Kerk handled the situation really well,” says Mann.
One is almost surprised at the calm despite the few games played by the top scorer last season. He has always shown willingness to perform. There was no theatre, not at all,” says the manager.
Talents should be transferred
The manager hasn’t heard from other clubs yet. But it may be a matter of time before rivals who could use Kerk goals come forward. His ex-club Nuremberg, for example, or other goal-minimalists in the league.
So far there have been no signals from Kerk, Gaël Ondoua (contracts until 2023) or Stolze (until 2024). If no one goes, it will be tight on the training ground. Also because some of the best players in the regional league team (currently third) already have professional contracts or should still get them. Coach Leitl would like to look at these players again. The winter break offers ideal conditions for this.
Nicolo Tresoldi, Maximilian Beier and Antonio Foti are with the U-national teams next week, Ondoua is at the World Cup for Cameroon. Ondoua was only on the bench in yesterday’s friendly against Panama (1-1). After his return from Qatar, he shouldn’t count on long spells at 96. Ondoua also has the choice to change.
