Toulouse: on the Place de la Trinité, “the Covid terraces have been removed, not the noise”
The extensions to the terraces on Place de la Trinité were removed in March. However, noise pollution is still significant according to local residents.
Under a gray sky, students enjoy steaming coffees on a table on the terrace of the Chez Mamie bar. This Monday morning, Place de la Trinité in Toulouse is very calm. “Much more than usual”, says Jean-Marie Amoros, the president of the brand new collective Trinité Toulouse Center (TTC), created in March 2022. For two years – when the town hall granted the Covid terraces to the bars in the square – the resident, who has lived in the district for more than twenty years, denounces daily noise pollution.

Toulouse: the Covid terraces, it’s over or almost
The removal of these extensions, last March, would not change anything, according to him. ” It’s the end of the Covid terraces, not the noise. There is absolutely no improvement. The establishments may have a space more restrained than there are a few less but they concentrate their tables. »
Sound records
To confirm its accusations, the Trinité Toulouse Center collective commissioned a company to carry out sound surveys in July. The report is written. There are reports of overruns of up to eleven decibels. “When you know that the standard is an overrun of three decibels…”, Jean-Marie Amoros gets annoyed.
According to an employee of one of the bars in the square, the volume would not have indeed dropped after the removal of the Covid terraces. “I don’t find that the terrace is less noisy than at the beginning of the year. We try to make an effort but there is always dissatisfaction, ”he slips.
The ten members of TTC are ready to go to court. “Three summonses, one for each bar, are ready to go,” threatens the president of the collective, who does not rule out filing handrails against the managers of establishments, whom we were unable to meet yesterday.
