Social housing: Continued dispute over allocation
social
The allocation of social housing in the city of Salzburg remains controversial. The main issue here is the so-called location request ban. Several municipal council factions led by the SPÖ have now joined forces against the ÖVP.
Due to the location request ban, applicants for a city apartment no longer have the opportunity to choose a district to live in. Opponents of the ban consider it bureaucratic and socially unacceptable.
As an example, they cite the single mother who needs schools and a social network nearby, or a pensioner who has lived in the same neighborhood for centuries: neither of them can be expected to be forced to move to another part of the city.
Call for withdrawal of the location request ban
There has also been a sharp increase in rejected social housing, criticize the SPÖ, KPÖ, Greens, List Ferch and the FPÖ. They reject the position request ban opened by the ÖVP and are striving for a joint withdrawal of the rule. Anyone who wants an apartment in the city should at least be able to roughly choose the location, so the demand.
However, the consensus ends with the question of who exactly should be able to choose: The FPÖ only wants relaxation for pensioners, but not for immigrants. The other groups reject stricter regulations for people with a migration background as discriminatory.
Agreement currently not in sight
An agreement is currently not in sight, but there should be further talks. Without the FPÖ, however, there is neither a majority in the municipal council nor in the social committee against the situation request ban, since the NEOS are on the side of the ÖVP. So everything stays the same for the time being.
